Tropical Coast Veterans Open
Michael Dann reports that Cardwell Golf Club once again turned on a typical North Queensland welcome for the Tropical Coast Veterans Open which was held on Tuesday 13th and Wednesday 14th July. Despite the threatening cloud cover the umbrellas only came out for a brief period during the first 9 holes of the event with ideal conditions prevailing for the remainder of the two days of play.
The event was organised and conducted by the Cardwell Golf Club Veterans who were pleased with the response by visiting players. This year was the third time the event has been run and it continues to grow with more than 70 players taking part again this year. Visiting golfers who participated for the first time were very enthusiastic about playing in Cardwell and the event is now firmly entrenched as part of the annual northern circuit.
The event is played over the two days with separate competitions being conducted on each day.

Ingham Veterans Golf Open Championship 2010
Michael Dann reports that nominations for the 8th Ingham Veterans Open were down a little on those of last year but the organising committee was pleased with the 100 individual nominations received. A few withdrawals meant that a total of 91 players took to the fairways during the three days of the carnival. Ingham Veterans welcomed 71 visiting players from 31 clubs from North Queensland, South East Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and Northern Territory.
Visitors to the tournament were welcomed by Ingham Veterans Golf President, Mr Bill Ross who also acknowledged the contribution to the tournament made by members of the organising committee, volunteers from among the local Veteran Golfers, Ingham Golf Club and the Ingham Ladies Golf Committee. The championships were well supported by sponsors from the local community which contributed to the success of this year’s championships. Special mention was made once again of the contribution made by the grounds staff consisting of Course Director Sam Scuderi, greenkeeper John Piotto and his voluntary helpers Neil Edwards and Phil Curro who again presented the course in top condition for the event after the continuous wet weather delayed the use of the full course until late May. Buggy Master Brian Hurley once again made every effort to satisfy the needs of visitors for buggies.
The Presentation Dinner was held at the Ingham Bowls Club on Wednesday night and was again a highlight enjoyed by all visiting and local golfers who attended.

Maryborough Veteran Golfers Open Carnival
Neil Hearn, the President of the Maryborough Veterans reports:
The 2010 Maryborough Veterans Carnival was played with a near maximum field of 426 players over the two days in delightful golfing weather. With 39 Clubs represented, from Murrumbidgee in the South, to Yeppoon in the North, we enjoyed good keen competition and an excellent presentation of our golf course. One of the highlights of the Carnival was the "Hole in One" by Relma Fox, from Caloundra, who managed to win the $600 prize voucher for her Ace on the 9th hole. This prize was donated by our local pro, Kevin Laws On Course Golf Shop and Maryborough Veteran Golfers Club. Relma is certainly one very happy lady.
The 36 hole Gross Winner was our own Geof Hogan (153 strokes) from Brian Murphy (Bribie Island Club) who was runner up on a countback with 154 strokes. Ladies Div 1 36 hole winner was Sue Jones (Headland Club) with 74 pts and runner up Del Scott from Nambour club with 73 pts.
We welcomed at our dinner held on the Monday night, Mr Keith Spry, President QVGU along with Mr Barrie McDevitt, President Wide Bay VGA, both of whom were keen competitors at the carnival. This year’s dinner entertainment was a Karaoke night which showed that good golfers do not always make good singers. However an excellent meal and some fine wines helped ensure a successful evening.
We congratulated our green keeping people for their great job in ensuring our Course was in top condition for the Carnival. Our Vets Captain Mr Paul Coleman and his band of willing workers helped make this Carnival a most successful event. We already have around 60 bookings for next year’s event which will be held on the 11th and 12th July 2011.
Maryborough Vets Club is also running an Open Day on Tuesday 21st September, shot gun start 0900, 18 hole Stroke Event. The field is limited to 144 players (men & women) and is planned to compliment the Hervey Bay Classic open event being conducted on Sunday and Monday the 19th &20th September.
